What is West Yorkshire Mx about?

The objective of this campaign is to raise awareness of off-road users and assess the scale of interest with the ultimate objective of having facilities or motocross track  for motocross riders within the West Yorkshire area.

Why is this necessary

The problem is that within West Yorkshire, there aren’t any dedicated motocross tracks.  In a bid to explore the possibilities of requesting land or facilities or motocross track, addressing the problem and improving the current situation we have created this internet site.  If motocross and off-road users want the authorities to consider the possibility of creating dedicated facilities or a track then we must first understand the scale of off-road use within the area. This will enable us to offer a valid argument for a track in West Yorkshire.

The authorities and Police also want a resolve to the problem and will hopefully be working with us to achieve this. It currently costs councils and police expensive resources  to deal with nuisance bikers. The main argument from these is “where can we go?”. At the moment, the only place is private land where the land owner has given written permission for this use. However, all other laws must be adhered to such as noise and anti-social behaviour.

What we want

Utopia for this campaign would be to aquire land and facilities to enable residents of West Yorkshire to enjoy their sport within a dedicated, safe environment without the fear of breaking the law and causing upset for others. Most sports are catered for within the area and many have multiple facilities.  Many off-roaders tell us that they are "very limited" in places to ride without traveling long distances to costly privately run tracks. Infact, some are selling their bikes and giving up the sport altogether. A large percentage of West Yorkshire contains unused land due to the demise of coal mining and other such industries.  We suggest that some of this land be put aside for this sport. A dedicated area will mean a reduction in off-roaders becoming a nuisance and annoyance to residents surrounding public and common land.

How can we achieve this?

In order to put forward an proposal to local authorities and police we will require research. It is not acceptable to approach them and say "some people want a track", statistics will provide a valuable asset during any negotiations.  By signing our petition we can assess the need for such facilities within our own area and approach the council to consider a change of approach to motocross riders and off-roaders. We want to put together a structured argument for facilities and create a working relationship with the council and police.

What can you do?

It’s important we know the scale of off-road and motocross / minibike users within this area.  Please click here or go to our sign the petition page to add your details to our database.  We are asking for the bare minimum of details in order to protect your bikes and location but require enough to ensure quality information is available to present to the authorities. For your piece of mind, the details will be stored on a secure server. If you currently do not have a bike would like the facility and are considering taking up the sport then please sign up, but remember to add a note in the comments box explaining this. Additionally, please join our forum to enable you to discuss the situation further with other off-roaders from around the area.
